Welcome, October
“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new” -Socrates
For as long as I can remember, at least the last decade, Fall was by far my least favorite season.
As much as I loved teaching, the beginning of a school year is a level of taxing, emotionally and physically, that you cannot begin understand unless you’ve live it.
This year feels different, lighter and that’s weird in a very introspective way. This is the first time in memory that I’m actually taking in this season and the delight it has to offer.
I’m not sure yet just how this newsletter format is going to go. It will obviously contain reading reviews and cocktail recipes, but I think I’ve decided this is the place where I’ll share deeper thoughts on why I left the classroom.
As I untie my identity from my former profession and find the words to articulate the weird balance of frustration and gratitude, I hope to make this space personal. Letters sent to you from your friend. Encouragement from someone who has felt hurt and lost, and guided and promised.
This will definitely not be a deep read every time you open an email and to prove it, check out Five Fall Books You Need to Read!
Also, here is the cutest dog video I’ve seen lately. Please always always always feel invited to send dog videos to me, btw.
I hope to use this platform as a round up to share great things that inspire, educate, and entertain you.

I’m open to making this a dynamic and evolving space! So, let me know what you’d most enjoy! Thank you for even putting your eyeballs on this letter.
As a wrap up, I don’t have any plans to make this newsletter a paid subscription. I will periodically share invitations to things like my book club and links to items that I may get a small commission from, but I only share things I love and find value in. It means so much to me when you take the time to use my links.
I’d be honored if you’d subscribe to get notes like these sent to your inbox once or twice a month.
If you’re in one of my book clubs or subscribed via thebookcasebeauty.com, you were the first to receive this letter in your inbox. Thank you for being here.
With Joy,
Katelyn
